In this much asked for workshop, instructor Carolyn Plummer will show students the exciting, creative and inexpensive way to create colorful jewelry components without the need for an expensive kiln or the use of expensive metals.
Although there are no formal prerequisites for this workshop, you MUST BE PROFICIENT WITH A JEWELER’S SAW FRAME if you will be cutting your own shapes. You may also use the bench shear, or purchase pre-cut shapes, if you would like.
Samples of jewelry projects that either incorporate or are entirely based upon the use of torch fired enamel components will be on display during class and will be briefly explained in order to wet the students’ appetite! Students will be encouraged to share ideas for original creations during class.
Students will learn and practice preparing materials and observing safety measures, how to properly clean metal for successfully getting enamels to stick, enamel sifting, lighting and adjusting Mapp gas for appropriate flame, heating the metal properly to get enamel fused on, proper cooling methods to prevent chipping or cracking enamel, and heat riveting.
Students will have the opportunity to make many components during this workshop and Carolyn will demonstrate how to make a ring as well!!
