Synclastic raising is the most commonly used method of creating a vessel that can hold a liquid. This workshop will introduce students to an extremely basic form of synclastic raising.
The synclastic form of raising for this workshop will focus on a gently formed Synclastic shape that will become a “deck” over an anticlastic cuff bracelet. The deck will enclose the cuff making it appear to be a solid form. The advantage of this technique is that it weighs and costs considerably less than a solid form.
There are many, many different tools used in the synclastic raising process. We will be using tools that are quite simple and easy to access.
