Through a series of demonstrations, participants in this Masters Workshop will learn a low tech, low cost, efficient method in making traditional Fusion Bonded Mokume Gane.
Each student will make a 15-17 layer billet using 20 gauge copper and Sterling silver sheet cut into 1 x 1.25 inch pieces. The billet will be fired in a refractory brick mini furnace using soldering torches as the heat source. Students will learn how to make patterned sheet metal and fabricate a seamless Mokume Gane band ring using the washer method. Enough material is leftover to make multiple rings or use in other jewelry projects.
**Participants will pay a kit fee of $100.00 which will purchase the student a refractory brick mini furnace, steel torque plates with hardware, a cleaning jig, 2 Scotch-Brite cleaning blocks, 220 grit sandpaper, and pumice powder, so students will be able to recreate Mokume Gane billets in their own shop after taking this workshop.
**Participants will also be required to purchase all items on the Mokume Gane tool list.
***INTERMEDIATE METAL SMITHING SKILLS ARE A MUST IN ORDER TO FINISH YOUR RING.
