This comprehensive workshop introduces the fundamentals of metalsmithing, including in depth information on studio safety procedures regarding tools, chemicals, and proper ventilation. Participants will be constructing a bezeled stone pendant with a bail and earrings with a post to attach a half-drilled pearl or stone.
Some of the subjects and techniques covered include:
Studio habits, safety, and ergonomics
Using a bench shear
Bezeling a cabochon
Soldering, post soldering
Sawing techniques for jewelry
Roll printing and hammer texturing/stamping
Hand finishing, including filing and sanding
Flex shaft techniques for finishing
Introduction to large machine finishing
You are encouraged to bring a camera (or cell phone) to photograph various set ups and instructions as the instructor directs. Upon successful completion of this class, students will be awarded a Certificate of Completion for 30 hours class time & will be given a free 4 hour Open Studio card.
