Leather Cuff

Leather Cuff

Instructor:  Judy Brown

Prerequisite:  Metalsmithing 1 or equivalent

Duration:  9 Hours

In this exciting workshop, Judy Brown will be helping you design and create a unique leather cuff. The cuff will have a metal core and you will learn how to laminate the leather pieces to create a seamless bond with professionally finished edges.

Participants are asked to come to the workshop with several basic drawings or images of what they are inspired to create. Judy will guide everyone with their ideas and help them come up with a design they are happy with and can be executed within this type of jewelry style.

This workshop will require forming, fitting and finishing. Embellishments are limitless, so let your imagination fly free! Embellishments will be riveted on, so if you wish to use a cabochon on your cuff:

  • Choose a round or oval stone no larger than 1 1/4 inches.
  • You will need to bring your cabochon already bezeled and soldered to the back plate and cleaned up on the edges. Back plate can be silver, copper, or red brass. It is riveted onto the cuff in class and will not show. Please use 22 gauge for this.
  • DO NOT SET THE STONE!!! Bezel will be riveted on in class, then the stone is set.

You should finish one complete cuff with embellishments. If time allows, you can work on more cuffs to be finished later.

A $20 Kit Fee is included in your tuition and covers the Cuff Kit which includes the use of:

Barges glue, leather hole punch, leather, rotary tool, textile needles and thread, colored sharpies, X-acto knives, leather edge punch, clips, burnishing tools for leather, leather edge paint and applicator, and carpenter’s square.

  • 6 in x 2 in 22 gauge red brass
