As we all know, leather jewelry is becoming more and more popular these days!!
In this student requested, 9 hour workshop, instructor Darlene Armstrong will be teaching students how to create a stone setting on a hand textured Sterling silver sheet to rivet onto a wide, brown or black leather bracelet (student’s choice). Pieces will be polished and patina will be applied as desired.
The afternoon will be preparation of the leather for length and holes will be put into each edge of the bezeled sheet to match up with the metal that will be used underneath the leather band to do the riveting. Students measure, mark and drill holes to do the wire rivets to attach the bezeled sheet to the under metal. Wire riveting will be carefully done on four edges. This is something that must be done with care so everything fits properly.
Students will measure, cut and match up the holes where the leather snaps will be applied. Students will have choices as to placement and how many snaps will be used.
These techniques are easy to incorporate into other styles of jewelry work , and useful in creating unusual or unique works of jewelry art using leather.
Students should come away with a finished custom leather bracelet of their own design!
Kit Fee: Darlene will provide the leather for the bracelets, & snap setter with snaps in a kit for $8.00. Please bring kit fee in cash or a check payable to Darlene Armstrong. (She will also bring leather hole punches for the class to use.)
