Under the careful tutelage of the Italian Master Fabrizio Acquafresca, students will learn Chasing and Repoussé in the Italian style. Through the proper use of various specialized tools, they will study and implement the classical Italian approach to transform sheets of metal into reliefs and other works of art. Students have the possibility to bring jewelry designs of their own choosing. These designs may contain fruit, floral patterns (no abstract or geometrical) images to realize in metal. The course has no prerequisites and is open to students of all levels.
Why Study Chasing and Repoussé with Il Maestro Acquafresca?
Chasing and Repoussé with Il Maestro Acquafresca is more than a technical course about chasing and repoussé. With Il Maestro's unmatched skill in the classical Italian art and technique of "cesello", it is more truly an experience of understanding a technique that has formed part of the artistic dynasty and lifework of the Acquafresca family, dating back to the Renaissance in Florence (1620), 17 generations strong. With this background, Il Maestro teaches with a passion, sharing his unique knowledge and with the accumulated experience of generations of artists and craftsmen in his family.
We start with an introduction to the course and the use of the tools, followed by illustration and selection of the different materials.
Students then begin the practical execution through an assigned project: creating a GINGKO LEAF pendant using the REGULAR SET OF TOOLS. The second day creating a GINGKO LEAF earring using the TINY SET OF TOOLS and understand how it is different to work in a small dimension.
Beginner & Intermediate Options:
(BEG) For the new students, the first day they are going to make a GINGKO LEAF pendant or DRAGONFLY using FINE SILVER 0.6/0.7mm, and for the rest of the other days each student should come with 2 or 3 projects they would like to make (excludinggeometrical and abstractprojects).
For the intermediate student, they have to bring 2 or 3 projects that will be discussed during the first day (excluding geometrical and abstractprojects) and it is possible to create several pieces, depending on the complexity of their projects and the student's individual work-rate.
Anything may be created, including bracelets, earrings and pendants; the possibilities are endless.
During the course, students will receive a lot of one on one attention as Fabrizio visits everyone individually.
