This Master Series Workshop is open to beginners, intermediate or advanced chasing and repoussé students. Beginning metalsmithing which has included sanding, filing, sawing and use of torches a MUST.
Chasing and Repoussé Master from Italy, Fabrizio Acquafresca will be joining us again this summer to give students the opportunity to advance their Chasing and Repoussé Skills in a SIX day workshop. Last year, Fabrizio taught a FIVE day workshop at DSMA and students were saying it would be great to have an extra day with the Master. This year, we are offering that extra day.
Whether you are a novice or have studied with the Master in the past, Fabrizio welcomes all who wish to learn the Italian way of Chasing and Repoussé for making unique jewelry!
This course will consist of six days of concentrated lessons:
The first lesson is the introduction to the course, use of tools, followed by illustration and selection of the different materials. Novices will learn to develop skills through the practical execution on an assigned project: Creating a dragonfly as the first exercise.
**It is possible for students to create more than one piece, depending on the complexity of their projects and the student’s individual work-rate. Students are allowed to bring their own design ideas and develop them all the way through to completed pieces, time permitting. Anything can be created, including bracelets, earrings or pendants. The possibilities are endless!! Students will have ample opportunity to learn and develop necessary skills to be able to go home and keep working in confidence after the workshop is over.
Students who have studied with Fabrizio are required to have a project already started to work on in class for use as a bracelet, pendant, brooch or earrings. Fabrizio visits everyone individually to assist with each project.
Students will receive a demonstration on how to ‘temper’ the hand tools, but the tools you are using in your “kit” are already tempered when you receive them. This tempering knowledge is essential to your success in the future when you will periodically need to temper your tools. Fabrizio will explain in detail during class.
Students are asked to bring and use a journal and camera to document their progress throughout the workshop.
