In this second Kumihimo workshop, Pat will show you how to upgrade your basic braid with the addition of beads to one or more of the cords.
Basic Kumihimo is required to be successful in this workshop and you will receive your ‘homework’ once your enrollment is processed. You will need to string all your cords at home, before the workshop, as there is not time to do so once here.
Bring the following supplies:
Disc, bobbins, weight, beading awl, round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, wire cutters, thread and clasp as for Kumihimo 8 strand braid.
Bead mat, glasses if needed.
Big eye needle or nail polish for bead stringing.
C-Lon cord, up to eight cords, three times the desired finished length, for the beaded strands. You can also use pearl knotting silk, one full card for each strand of beads. Needle is attached!
End caps with hole at top, 8” piece of 20 ga. wire.
Beads according to the following chart, Kumihimo math required! You will need to figure (# of strands with beads, maximum 8) times (finished length in inches) times (number of beads per inch) = number of beads needed, then divide by the number of beads per gram to determine how much to purchase. Numbers below are approximate and vary by manufacturer.
8/0 seed beads, 8 beads per inch, 38 per gram
6/0 seed beads, 6 beads per inch, 12 per gram
4x4 cubes, 6 beads per inch, 12 per gram
Drop beads, 6-8 per inch, 20 per gram
Be sure to purchase enough beads, you can add more if you run short.
